Harvey is a series of unique sculptural works, handmade in clay, exploring the material and formal possibilities of ceramics through a process that balances technical control with unpredictability. The project stems from a curiosity towards the material and a desire to understand how far it can be pushed, allowing its physical behaviour to become an active part of the creative process.

Each piece is shaped using the coil-building technique and finished through the Obvara firing method. During the second firing, the sculptures are removed from the kiln at approximately 960°C and immediately treated with a mixture of water and organic substances, cast directly onto their surfaces. The interaction between the intense heat and the organic mixture generates layers of dark tones and irregular, textured finishes, making each surface inherently unique.

The production method balances precise technical control with the unpredictability of the final result. Rather than seeking complete control, Harvey embraces the responsiveness of the material, allowing each sculpture to emerge from a dialogue between intention and chance. The resulting surfaces, shaped by these technical transformations, reveal the complexity and inherent uncertainty of the creative process.

Harvey becomes a study of materiality as a living, responsive force, engaging directly with the conditions and transformations inherent in the making process. The firing is therefore not simply a technical stage, but an integral part of the work—an experimental tool through which new forms, textures, and material expressions are discovered.
